YourDictionary.com - Based upon the fourth edition of the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, YourDictionary.com provides comprehensive definitions of English language words, as well as access to thesauri and various translation dictionaries.

Encyclopedias

Britannica Online - Britannica is one of the world’s most trusted sources of information on just about every topic imaginable, and you can find it all in this great online encyclopedia.

Columbia Encyclopedia - The Sixth Edition of the Columbia Encyclopedia has nearly 51,000 entries on a vast range of topics.  Click on “Bibliographic Record” at the top of each article to find a citation for that article.

Microsoft’s Encarta Encyclopedia Article Center - Search over 4,500 articles on a variety of topics including sports, religion, science, language, history, and geography.

Wikipedia - This is a great, free, open content, community-built encyclopedia with thousands of articles on topics from A to Z.  It is available in many languages, is continuously updated, and includes many modern terms not yet found in other sources.

Thesauri

Merriam-Webster Dictionary Online - Free access is available to both the Merriam-Webster dictionary and thesaurus.

Roget’s II: The New Thesaurus - This is a searchable online version of the thesaurus by the same name that includes over 35,000 and 250,000 cross-references.

Translation

Cambridge Klett Compact Spanish-English Dictionary Online - This online dictionary will translate Spanish words into English and English words into Spanish. 

Logos Translation Dictionary - Type in the word you wish to translate (in any language) and Logos will translate the word into numerous languages for you.  The database will also provide you with a definition so that you can make sure you have the right word.  Contains millions of terms in more than 200 languages.
