If you need to cancel, please let us know!

 

For children’s programs with limited space, preference will be given to Highland residents.  Other interested folks will be placed on a waiting list the first 3 days of registration.

Programs begin promptly, so please arrive early as a courtesy to our program providers and to the other children in the program.  Latecomers will not be admitted once storytime has begun.

LEGO Fest

For kids K - 5th grades.

Use our huge collection of LEGO to create whatever you like! We'll display your artwork in the Youth Department.

Instrument Petting Zoo

Wednesday, April 7, 10:30am

For kids K - 8th grades.

Musicians from Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will bring instruments for us to take a look at! There'll be small instruments for younger kids and larger instruments for older participants.

Registration begins March 16.

 

Night Tales

Tuesday, April 20, 7:00pm

Enjoy some fun stories as we shake off winter's chill. Feel free to come in your PJ's! Stories will be chosen with 3- to 6-year-olds in mind. Families are welcome!

Doughnuts with Dad

For kids 2 - 6 years old.

Grab your dad and bring him in for stories, a craft, and doughnuts!

Play and Chat

For babies and their caregivers.

First and Third Fridays of each month, 10:00am - 11:00am.

Meet in the Read-to-Me Room, hang out with one another, read and play puzzles with your kids, and enjoy each other's company. 

New to the area?  This is a great way to meet people! This is a drop-in activity on first and third Fridays of each month.  No registration is required.

 

 

Getting Ready to Read

So much more than just storytime, our classes may include stories, crafts, sing-along and games to encourage your child to develop language skills.

 

Toddler Time

For children 18-35 months at time of registration.

Designed to help children with socialization, cognitive and large motor development.  Each child must be accompanied by an adult - please make other arrangements for siblings.  Select either Session I or Session II:

Session I

  Mondays, 10:30am - 11:00am

  January 25 - February 8 (3 sessions)

  Registration begins January 11.

Session II

  Mondays, 10:30am - 11:00am

  March 8 - March 29

  Registration begins February 22.

 

Preschool Stories

For children 3 - 5 years old, not yet in Kindergarten.

Independence and reading-readiness are emphasized.  Children need to be able to sit and listen to stories on their own.

Session I

  Tuesdays, 10:30am - 11:00am

  January 26 - February 16

  Registration begins January 11.

Session II

  Tuesdays, 10:30am - 11:00am

  March 16 - March 30 (3 sessions)

  Registration begins February 22.

 

Lights, Camera, Action... READ!

The Youth Department has been awarded a generous grant from Target for Reader's Theatre (literature presented in a dramatic form), and we're planning sessions on costumes, make-up, acting, and more!

 

American Short and Tall Tales

Wild Swan Theatre of Ann Arbor

Friday, January 29, 11:00am

For children 3 years - 7th grades.

Join us for tales and music from the early days of America, as actors Sandy Ryder and Hilary Cohen portray a dizzying array of characters!  Travel up the Mississippi river with Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crockett, along a Louisiana bayou with Compère Lapin, and into a southwestern village where old Tia Miseria has a trick or two up her sleeve.  Wild Swan will also perform at Milford Library at 2:00pm on this day - Milford and Highland residents can register for either starting January 12.

 

Reader's Theatre

Tuesday, March 9 at 10:30am

Registration begins February 23

1st - 3rd graders: Jump into the book The Baby Beebee Bird and join in a performance.

4th - 7th graders: Use our new hats and masks as we perform a play in disguise!

 

Theatre Make-Up

Saturday, May 22 at 2:00pm

For kids in 4th - 7th grades.

Members of the Class Act Drama 4-H group will teach us about theatre make-up.  They will also share some tips to help us improve our acting!

Registration begins May 4.
