Welcome to the Highland Library Kids' Zone!

Parents, don’t hesitate to ask for our help when you are visiting the department.  If your child is with you and can explain what he needs, please encourage him to speak to us!

If you need an overview, ask us for a quick tour.  If you need help with the catalog, we’ll be glad to show you how to use it!

Check out some of our links, which we’ve selected with you in mind!

Also, please read the Child Safety Policy.

Today's Tip: Reading Seeds

  • Buy a dictionary with pictures and practice looking up words.

  • Read a chapter book to an older child. You can keep them interested by only reading 1 or 2 chapters at a time.

  • Take your child to story time at the library.

  • Ask your child to re-tell a story you've read together.

  • Choose a letter and ask your child to point out that letter every time he/she sees it in the grocery store.

  • Limit TV viewing to 10 hours or less per week.  Watch TV with your child and discuss what is viewed.
